Counter Sliver: Spicy Brew
Counter Sliver is a white-blue tempo deck built from the cheapest Slivers in the format. Every Sliver shares its ability with every other Sliver, so three two-drops become one team: Crystalline Sliver gives all Slivers shroud, Winged Sliver gives them flying and Muscle Sliver gives them +1/+1. With all three out, Crystalline Sliver attacks as a 3/3 and the other two as 2/2 flyers, seven damage a turn instead of four, and Swords to Plowshares, Lightning Bolt and Smother cannot target any of them. Plated Sliver adds toughness, and Essence Sliver gains you life whenever a Sliver deals damage.
There are only sixteen creatures, because the rest of the deck is the blue tempo shell that Stiflenought made famous: four Counterspell, Foil and Gush that cost no mana, and Impulse and Portent to find the next Sliver. The counters are there for what shroud cannot stop, the cards that never target a creature: Wrath of God, Pyroclasm, Engineered Plague naming Sliver, Powder Keg and Diabolic Edict. Mox Diamond makes a turn-one Crystalline Sliver possible and fixes the green for Muscle Sliver, City of Brass and Gemstone Mine cover the other colors, and a single Fire // Ice splashes red. Nine Islands stay in the deck because Gush returns two of them and Foil discards one.
The weak spots are exactly those untargeted answers. Anarchy destroys every white permanent, Crystalline Sliver included, Powder Keg at two counters destroys Crystalline, Winged and Muscle Sliver at once, and Solitary Confinement prevents the damage. Earthquake only works while Winged Sliver is missing. The sideboard brings Hydroblast against red and Pyroblast against blue, Meddling Mage to name Wrath of God, Worship against burn, and Engineered Plague naming Goblin or Elf, never Sliver. Aiden Johnson took this exact 75 to second place of 32 at the ELD Open x NEPMM in Bellingham, Massachusetts, on May 9, 2026, and rat12342 went 5-0 in an MTGO Premodern League the next day with the same idea. It is a fringe deck: mtgtop8 lists five Sliver decks with a Top 8 in 2026, and most of them are five-color Sliver piles without a single counterspell.
