Premodern archetypes that play Withered Wretch
- Mono Black: Main-deck graveyard hate on a beating: a 2/2 for two that eats Replenish piles, Reanimator targets and flashback one mana at a time. Extremely live in the current metagame.
- Deadguy Ale: The graveyard hate that comes in the maindeck. Against Reanimator and Replenish it does not exile at random: it removes exactly the pieces that make their big turn work. Needs black mana held open to matter.
- Clerics: A Cleric body and maindeck graveyard hate in one: it exiles a card for one mana, blanking Reanimator, Recurring Nightmare and flashback. Careful, it can exile your own Scion by accident.
- Zombies: A two-mana 2/2 that exiles cards from graveyards one at a time for one mana each. Maindeck graveyard hate against Reanimator, Replenish and Psychatog, a Cleric for Rotlung, and a perfectly good attacker when there is nothing to exile. Keep black mana open when it matters.
