Sideboard plans with Pyroclasm
- Terrageddon vs. Goblins, Elves, Clerics and Zombies. Against Goblins, in: four Pyroclasm and Zuran Orb; out: the two Naturalize, the Disenchant and the two Werebear. Against Elves, Clerics and Zombies, in: four Pyroclasm and two Cursed Totem; out: a Naturalize, the two Werebear and the three Weathered Wayfarer, since Pyroclasm and Cursed Totem both hurt those creatures. Cast Pyroclasm before deploying your own one-toughness creatures, or after Mongoose and Werebear have threshold.
- Terrageddon vs. Sligh. In: two Pyroclasm, an Aura of Silence, Warmth and Zuran Orb.
- Terrageddon vs. Enchantress, Replenish, Oath of Druids and Aluren. Against Enchantress, in: two Aura of Silence, Ray of Revelation, the third Naturalize and three Pyroclasm for Argothian Enchantress and small animated enchantments; out: the four Swords to Plowshares, which have few targets there, and the three Call of the Herd, since Parallax Wave exiles tokens for good. Against Replenish the same four enchantment answers come in without Pyroclasm, for the three Call of the Herd and a Weathered Wayfarer.
- Oath of Druids vs. Creature decks with activated abilities: Goblins, Elves, UG Madness, Clerics and Sligh. Pyroclasm is for the red builds only.
- Full English Breakfast vs. Goblins, Sligh, Elves, UG Madness, Clerics, Zombies, White Weenie, RG Zoo and Gro-a-Tog. Two Pyroclasm and Ghitu Slinger against every creature deck. Pyroclasm kills your own Birds, Hermit Druid and Squee, so Birds of Paradise usually goes out with it. Against Sligh Enlightened Tutor comes in to find Survival and two Hermit Druids leave; against Clerics and Zombies Ray of Revelation answers Engineered Plague, and Pyroclasm is weaker while Rotlung Reanimator or Bad Moon is on the battlefield.
- The Solution vs. Reanimator, Full English Breakfast, Clerics and Contamination. Against Clerics, in: both Pyroclasm and two Tormod's Crypt; out: both Miscalculation and two Portent. Cast Pyroclasm once Rotlung Reanimator is gone, or every Cleric it kills, your Mother of Runes included, gives them a 2/2 Zombie, and keep the Crypts for Unearth and Living Death.
- The Solution vs. Sligh, Goblins and RG Zoo. Against Sligh and Goblins, in: Hydroblast, Blue Elemental Blast, Warmth, Worship and both Pyroclasm; out: both Miscalculation, both Fact or Fiction and two Portent. The Blasts counter a burn spell or destroy a red creature for one mana, Warmth gains you 2 life for every red spell they cast, and Pyroclasm kills every creature with toughness 2 or less, yours included, so keep Mother of Runes untapped to protect one.
- The Solution vs. Elves, White Weenie, Zombies, Rebels and Terrageddon. Against all five, in: both Pyroclasm; out: both Miscalculation, or two Portent against Terrageddon, where the counters are your answer to Armageddon. Pyroclasm kills mana creatures, the Rebel searchers, Zombies once Lord of the Undead is gone, and Nimble Mongoose before threshold, since shroud does not stop damage that does not target; it does not hurt Silver Knight or Soltari Priest, which have protection from red.
- The Solution vs. Other red builds and the white-blue build. The newest red list on MTGTop8, Magicecs83's (top four of 12 at an Eternal League event in Italy, 1 October), plays two Disenchant in the main deck and boards four Galina's Knight, three Annul, three Hydroblast, two Pyroblast, two Pyroclasm and a third Disenchant.
- MUD vs. Stiflenought, Landstill, Psychatog, Tron, The Solution and Dromar Control. Add two Shattering Pulse against Stiflenought for Dreadnought and Powder Keg, one against Landstill, Phyrexian Furnace against Psychatog, and two Pyroclasm against The Solution and Dromar.
- MUD vs. Goblins, Sligh and Zoo. Three Pyroclasm and two Rejuvenation Chamber, plus Crumbling Sanctuary against Sligh and Zoo, which turns damage to players into cards exiled from the library. Pyroclasm kills your own Welders, so cast it before deploying them. Most current lists also board Chill and Powder Keg for their one-drops; Chill makes red spells cost two more, your own Goblin Welder and Pyroclasm included.
- MUD vs. Elves, Mono Black, Terrageddon, Clerics, Zombies and UG Madness. Three Pyroclasm against every creature deck, plus two Shattering Pulse against Elves for the Tangle Wire a third of their lists play and against Mono Black for Cursed Scroll and Powder Keg, and the second Furnace against Terrageddon, Clerics and Zombies.
- MUD vs. Reanimator and graveyard decks. Against Full English Breakfast bring the second Furnace and three Pyroclasm, and take out the Devourer kill, Skullcap and Tsabo's Web.
- Gro-a-Tog vs. Sligh and Goblins. Pyroclasm, in three of four sideboards, kills Jackal Pup, Mogg Fanatic and every small Goblin.
- Gro-a-Tog vs. Elves, Zombies and Clerics. Engineered Plague, in half of the sideboards, names Elf, Zombie or Cleric and shrinks the whole team; Pyroclasm kills everything with toughness 2 or less. Your own Pyroclasm is red, so it grows Quirion Dryad first: a Dryad with one counter already survives it.
