Premodern archetypes that play Abeyance
- Replenish: Two mana at instant speed: for the rest of the turn the target player cannot cast instants or sorceries or activate abilities that aren't mana abilities, and you draw a card. Cast it on your own turn before you discard your enchantments, since they can still answer Abeyance itself, or in their upkeep to stop an Armageddon or a Hermit Druid turn. In about seven of ten main decks since September, one to three copies, most often three.
Sideboard plans with Abeyance
- Enchantress vs. Combo: Full English Breakfast, Aluren and Replenish.
- Replenish vs. Graveyard hate and enchantment prison. Resolved before you discard your enchantments, Abeyance turns off Tormod's Crypt, Phyrexian Furnace and Withered Wretch for the combo turn; Seal of Cleansing destroys Solitary Confinement, Aura Flux or Gloom, though under Gloom its activation costs {3}.
