Premodern archetypes that play Lava Dart
- RG Zoo: One damage for {R}, and its flashback costs no mana, only a Mountain you sacrifice: it kills two one-toughness creatures, such as mana Elves, Goblin Lackey, Ramosian Sergeant or a Mother of Runes before she untaps, and grows Quirion Dryad twice. Karplusan Forest is not a Mountain, so keep a basic Mountain for the flashback.

Against Goblins and Elves, in: both Earthquake and both Lava Dart; out: both Goblin Patrol and both Sulfuric Vortex, which gains nothing against decks that don't gain life and which Goblins' main-deck Naturalize destroys. Lava Dart kills a one-toughness creature and flashes back by sacrificing a Mountain.
