Premodern archetypes that play Careful Study
- UG Madness: For {U} it draws two cards and then discards two, which digs for an outlet and puts madness cards, Roar of the Wurm, Deep Analysis or Wonder where they work. Cast without anything worth discarding, it only costs you a card.
- Reanimator: One blue mana to draw two cards, then discard two: it finds a creature and puts it into the graveyard with a single card. Four of five lists since September play four, and it is the main reason most lists run blue sources.
