Premodern archetypes that play Call of the Herd
- Terrageddon (3x)
- RG Zoo: Three mana for a 3/3 Elephant token, then {3}{G} from the graveyard for another: two threats from one card. It is a sorcery, so Duress can take it, but a discarded or countered Call can still be flashed back. Graveyard hate such as Withered Wretch, Tormod's Crypt or Phyrexian Furnace takes the second Elephant away, and so does a counterspell on the flashback, after which the card is exiled.
Sideboard plans with Call of the Herd
- Oath of Druids vs. Creatureless control and combo: Replenish, Landstill, Stasis and Tron. Call of the Herd, in about seven of ten sideboards and in the main deck of some lists, makes two 3/3s from one card. Glowrider makes every noncreature spell cost one more, your own included: Call of the Herd, Swords to Plowshares and the land destruction, though not Terravore.
- Gro-a-Tog vs. Landstill, Psychatog, BW Control and The Rock. A second Armageddon punishes decks that need lands for counters and manlands, and Call of the Herd adds two threats that survive one sweeper.
