Premodern archetypes that play Gerrard's Verdict
- Deadguy Ale: Two cards for two mana, and you gain 3 life for each land card discarded this way. The discarding player chooses the two cards, so a full hand keeps its best spells, while a hand of two cards or fewer loses everything. Cast on yourself, it turns two spare lands into 6 life. It is weak against Madness, Reanimator, Replenish, Full English Breakfast and Fluctuator: madness cards are cast cheaply when discarded, and the other four want cards in their graveyard.
- BW Control: Two cards for two mana. The opponent chooses which, and you gain 3 life for each land they discard. Against UG Madness and Replenish it helps them: madness cards discarded this way are cast for their madness cost, and Replenish returns discarded enchantments.
